What is Value Engineering?

Value Engineering is a systematic and organised approach directed at optimising the whole industrial construction process. Building materials and systems are among the undisputed performers of this value process, together they can improve without sacrificing, quality, functionality and investment.

Why is Value Engineering Reverse at SCI VALUE?

We coined the term Reverse Value Engineering® in order to distinguish our method from the one commonly used in the market.

Value Engineering processes usually try to optimise the investment during project development. As a result, the assumed valorisation is not optimised. Designers’ habits and customs prevent the objective from being fully achieved. That’s where a great amount of unexpressed Value lies. Reverse Value Engineering® goes backwards – bottom up, starting with the final result and “going back” to each individual value component, with an analytical breakdown of the items and quantities. The result is an in-depth analysis that goes beyond the standard, because the aim is to bring out the building materials and systems where the greatest value, savings, lie.

We have been successfully applying this method for over 30 years. Recent examples have confirmed the importance of Reverse Value Engineering starting with the contracts entrusted to us by Patrizia AG on the Verona Property Fund in the important redevelopment of the Former General Storehouses of Verona. A very ambitious and complex project which, with our support from RVE®, optimised investment budgets by an average of 25% over pre-tender costs.
